Parent/Teacher interviews start this week. Liz and Cam are excited to share your child's progress.

Only two more weeks left, so please take the time to look and return any library books.

Week 6

Is it that time of the year? We bet your child has commented on the number of tests that we have had so far! 4/5FM have been working hard to finish their work for the year which will be assessed for report cards.

Thanks to those who came to the "Walking Wheeling Week" performance at the Convention Centre. In our opinion, they were the stars of the show!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Check out the news section for Week 4 homework.

Your monthly spelling Test is on Wednesday this week!

Congratulations to students for their wonderful homework during Term 4. We think that the new way it has been set out has helped students to keep track of their own homework.

This Saturday the 31st October is Deaf Festival! YAY! It is being held at our very own school (lower oval, near the tennis courts). It's not just for Deaf people, bilingual kids will have a great time too. Come down and show off your signing skills and enjoy the fun activities and entertainment between 10am - 5pm. Our signing choir is performing too, which is most of 4/5FM.

This Thursday night Mr Miller and Mrs Fletcher and many teachers and ALMs from Toowong are off to a special Showcase Night to find out if the Bilingual Program and Toowong's multicultural setting have won the Inclusion Award. Even if we don't win, we have made it to State Finals which is a great effort.

Congratulations to Natasha who did a fantastic job at State competition this week. We seem to have a super athlete in our class!!! Very exciting! If only Mrs Fletcher could run that fast :)

This Thursday is a big technology day! Please read your homework to find out just what you need to do in order to be prepared.

Week 8

It’s strange, it doesn’t feel like it, but the end of term is near. For the next two weeks Year 4/5 FM will be completing various assessment tasks related to our Integrated Unit ‘Australian History’. Some of the assessment tasks are: letter writing using ‘olde’ language and creating a fact file on a famous Australian from the 1700-1800s.

Everyone is now completing their maths investigation. Many of the students are producing excellent work. For the last few weeks, we have increased our focus on basic facts recall in the area of multiplication (Yr 4) and division (Yr 5). Please make the time to practise these facts with your child.

Please note- Camp is only two weeks away, which means camp costs must be paid before the camp or a payment arrangement will need to have been made with the office.

Interschool sports have well and truly started! Every Friday Mr M will be out umpiring softball games. The Year Fours will remain at school with Ms Harris and Mr Moolenaar. If your child is in Year 5 please make sure that they have their water bottles and hats for sport.

Have a great week!

Mr M and Ms F

Week 6

Unbelievable- we are half way through the term. Last week was a strange week as many students were away with the flu. This week should see us back to normal. This week, we will have a special visitor (Sam) from Uganda. Sam will be talking to the students about schools in his homeland. This will provide the students a different perspective on how children their own age receive education in another country.

Week 4

Check out the upcoming events:- students have been busy making 3D birds. They have used an empty water bottle and a wire hanger to make a bird shape. Last week, we Paper Mached them. We can't wait to see the final product.

Photos of the Toowong State School Signing Choir will be uploaded very soon.

Have a great week!

We are studying Australian History! Check out Redcliffe First Settlement Festival & Superboat Grand Prix - which links to our Integrated Unit. It's on the 12 September 2009 - 13 September 2009 - just before our camp!

We have had such a busy two weeks back!

URGENT - PLEASE SEND IN SPELLATHON SPONSORSHIP FORMS :)

Our Sports Carnival was a wonderful day and we had so many 4/5FM students involved in the day, in lots of different events! Emily even returned to compete!!! Many Toowong S.S. students are now off to Districts in a variety of events! WOW!

So what's happening at the moment in class?

On Mondays we get together with 4/5DH and read 'Surviving Sydney Cove' - an insight into a young convicts life. Students are then required to use their comprehension skills based on their listening and watching skills. Students each have their own copy which allows them to follow along.

On Thursdays two students (different students each week) lead our whole class shared reading session - one reading and one signing. We are reading Blabbermouth and students are really enjoying it, because it's very funny!

Year 4's maths investigation is based on developing their own worksheet. Year 5's maths investigation involves planning a trip around Queensland to visit many icons, including the Big Pineapple and the Skyrail in Cairns.

Our 'You Can Do It' focus is 'Organisation' with a large focus on setting realistic goals.

Mrs Fletcher has loved working with 4/5FM on Fridays during Week 1 and 2 but is back to Uni next Friday.

This Term 4/5FM welcomes two new Language Assistants (now called ALMs - Auslan Language models) - Jonamie Chua and Anna Pavia (a former Language Assistant at Toowong State School).

We all enjoyed stressing less on Stress Down Day last Friday! Teachers in PJs - hmmm. Year 6/7s raised lost of money for Lifeline - we are yet to calculate an exact figure.

For students in the signing choir, below is the link for the Picnic in the Park that we will be performing at on August 1st.

LIBRARY BORROWING - THURSDAY 2.45PM

SWIMMING AND SPORT  - FRIDAY

We have also updated main events on each day of the week.

As you know swimming began last week and students had lots of fun. However, we do have a lot of lost property here at school so remind students to have a look and please check that your child hasn't taken home a pair of school shorts that aren't theres because we have a boy missing his shorts! They have his name on them.

Ask students about their math investigations    'Number and Multiplication' (Year 4) and 'Number and Measurement' PLENTY OF PIKELETS (Year 5).

We have done a lot of work on paragraphs and pronouns (his, her) in the last two weeks. We were very lucky to have a visit from Michael Innes to talk about his experience as a pilot!

Last Thursday students completed a SOSE written assessment based on the history of flight. This written assessment will go towards their SOSE grade for Semester One reporting.

Mrs Fletcher won't be at school on Fridays this term as she is involved in a university course for Auslan studies.
